The Use of Dandelion And Precautions
Many people think of the dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) as a weed, moreover a pesky weed, but herbalists consider it a valuable herb that can be used as a food and medicine.
From the aspect of nutrition, dandelion leaves are used to add flavour to salads, sandwiches and teas. The roots are used in some coffee substitutes, and blossoms are used to make wines and syrups.
From the medicinal aspect, traditionally, dandelion roots and leaves were used to treat liver problems, kidney disease, skin problems, stomach problems, fever, diabetes, diarrhoea...
So far, there have not been any good quality scientific studies on dandelion. Some preliminary animal studies suggest that dandelions may help normalize blood sugar levels and lower total cholesterol and triglycerides. Human studies are needed to see if dandelion would work in people.
